Originally from Hanover, PA, Julie Smith is a 2010 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an M.M. in Flute Performance. Her primary teachers include current instructor Deborah Egekvist, Diane Smith, and Linda Kirkpatrick, with additional instruction from Bonita Boyd and Rebecca Gilbert. Julie graduated summa cum laude from Roberts Wesleyan College (Rochester, NY) in 2007, earning a B.S. in Music Education. While at Roberts Julie was named the Presser Scholar in 2006, won the '05-'06 Concerto/Aria Competition, and graduated from the school's Honors Program. She also took first place in the Rochester Flute Association's annual competition in 2005 and 2008 (collegiate and adult divisions).
While at UNCG, Julie has served as the flute studio's graduate assistant, teaching undergraduate flute majors and conducting the university flute choir. She won the 2010 Student Artist Competition at UNCG, earning a solo performance with the symphony orchestra. Julie is also an accomplished collaborative pianist, accompanying recitals at Roberts Wesleyan College, McDaniel College, UNCG, and Northwestern University. She and her husband Roy currently make their home in Greensboro, NC.
